The Process

Garda Vetting Process

All employees engaged in relevant work including roles involving contact with children or vulnerable adults must complete Garda Vetting clearance before commencing their role.

Appointments will only proceed once clearance is completed and approved, ensuring no risk to service users, staff, or the organisation.

No appointment will be confirmed until clearance is
fully received and approved by our team.

What Must Be Declared

Disclosure Requirements

Applicants are required to disclose all convictions as part of the Garda Vetting process.

All applicants must complete and sign a Standard Declaration as part of their application.”

Failure to disclose relevant information may result in withdrawal of a job offer or termination of employment.

Overseas Applicants

Applicants Who Have Lived Overseas

If you have lived outside the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland for 6 months or more (after age 16), you must provide police clearance from each country you resided in.

Confirms No Convictions

Clearance must confirm no convictions during your stay in that country.

Full Period of Residence

Must cover the complete period you lived in that country no gaps.

Dated After Leaving

Clearance must be dated after you left that country, not during your stay.

Required Before Appointment

All clearance must be provided and approved before a final appointment is confirmed.

Important: Failure to provide required police clearance may result in withdrawal of a job offer. Begin the process early as it can take significant time.

Obtaining international police clearance is the responsibility of the applicant and can take time.

We strongly recommend beginning this process early if you are considering a role with Donnycarney Youth Project.

International clearance can take weeks or months. Apply as soon as you express interest in a role.

All associated costs for obtaining international police clearance are borne by the applicant.

Any costs involved in obtaining international police clearance must be covered by the applicant. Donnycarney Youth Project is not responsible for these costs.

How to Apply for Clearance

The process for obtaining police clearance varies by country. Below is guidance for the most common countries.

United Kingdom

Apply via ACRO Criminal Records Office or
the relevant police authority for
England, Scotland, or Wales.

United States

Clearance must be obtained from the FBI — not individual states. Identity history summary checks are required.

Australia

National police clearance is available via the Australian Federal Police (AFP) online portal.

New Zealand

Police clearance certificates are available through the official New Zealand Police online service.

Other Countries

Contact the relevant embassy or consulate in Ireland for guidance on how to obtain police clearance from your country of residence.
